Managed on behalf of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council with funding from ERDF
Involved a substantial rebranding and refurbishment programme on commencement of the project
Business support delivered to internal and external businesses through a dedicated Incubation Director.
Oxford Innovation took over the management of Stockport Business Incubator from 1st September 2013, on behalf of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. The centre originally opened in 2005 but having fallen in to disrepair, and with customer service levels dropping, the Council appointed Oxford Innovation to inject a new lease of life.
During the first 3 months of mobilisation we recruited a new team and undertook a rebranding exercise and refurbishment programme, which included upgrading the internet provision and introducing a communal business lounge called the Engine House. The Engine House replaced two offices with no natural light that had never been let, and now provides a communal working and collaboration space for customers and over 75 members to use on a drop in basis.
An Incubation Director was recruited to join the centre team and is dedicated to delivering business support to centre customers, as well as other local businesses through a Spark business idea programme. The team also hosts a range of events, seminars and workshops to facilitate networking and ensuring the Centre is known as a hub of business activity in the local area.
In the first year under Oxford Innovation’s management and as a result of an intensive marketing programme and a focus on customer service, we have increased occupancy by over 20% and total monthly revenue by 50%. We are now exploring options with the Council to partition some of the larger offices to increase the proportion of start-up space.
Performance in the first 12 months:
“The team are great at being approachable and extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble. When we report a problem it is dealt with quickly and efficiently.”
“Quick to respond, personable team, open to ideas, flexible in approach”
“You present a friendly yet professional image. You get off your bums and take the initiative in getting things done and are constantly working to make things better. Good at looking after the little things. Good at making it clear to customers that our interests are your priority.”
